Mountain Laurel Medical Center, in conjunction with the Garrett County Health Department, is promoting smoking cessation among families with children. The Pregnancy and Tobacco Cessation Help (PATCH) Mini-Grant is used to address high smoking rates among pregnant women and women of child-bearing age. Patients in Grantsville and Oakland offices that wish to quit smoking can be referred to the Maryland Quit Line or GCHD for support. Education on the harmful effects of smoking is provided to patients, and models with 3-D effects of smoke can be viewed in the waiting room. Mountain Laurel is an active participant in providing outreach, education, and training related to smoking or secondhand smoke prevention in the community.
